The Telegraph warns that conveyancing fraudsters are developing more sophisticated tactics as awareness of the danger increases. Criminals who steal large sums of money by intercepting email communications between house buyers and their solicitors are now attempting to establish their credibility first and targeting buyers earlier in the conveyancing process by sending a series of legitimate-looking emails requesting official documents before asking for payments. Rob Hailstone, a former conveyancing lawyer, points out that some firms had gone back to using fax machines as they couldn’t be hacked.
