Copyright changes will wrong-foot many
The Times’ James Hurley discusses how a change in copyright law has wrong-footed manufacturers. The change, which brings Britain into line with European rules and could come into effect next month, will mean much stronger legal protection for the rights-holders of popular designs. Copyright protection for industrially produced designs will be extended from 25 years to 70 years from the death of the creator. Businesses and the owners of rights were informed that the date of implementation was April 2020 but this has been moved forward to as soon as this April
