The National Farmers’ Union (NFU) has stepped up pressure on supermarkets, with the threat of legal action over their “misleading” invention of fake farm brands which they claim dupe shoppers into thinking they are buying British when the produce can be foreign. NFU president Meurig Raymond has urged trading standards officers to investigate the practice because he believes consumers are being misled. A Tesco spokesman said: “Our research shows customers enjoy our farms’ range and understand where the products come from, with the country of origin clearly labelled on the pack.”
